Our History
The Ana Tellez Memorial Scholarship was created by her family to honor the life, legacy, and light of Ana Tellez—a beloved sister, daughter, and friend who lived with a deep commitment to service. Ana passed away in 2023 after a courageous battle with leukemia, but her impact on her community continues to shine.
From a young age, Ana had a heart for service. Whether it was volunteering at church or her community, she consistently gave of herself to lift others up. Even during her fight with cancer, Ana remained others-focused. Just months before her passing, from her hospital bed where she was receiving treatment, she organized a backpack drive to help students in need at Hagerman High School—her alma mater. Thanks to her determination and vision, 80 backpacks filled with supplies were distributed to local kids in a city with fewer than 400 students.
This scholarship was born from that same spirit of generosity and love. Each year, it is awarded to graduating seniors from Hagerman—whether they attend Hagerman High School or another school in the area—who demonstrate character, resilience, and a heart for service. Whether through academics, leadership, or everyday kindness, we seek to honor students who reflect the values Ana lived by.
Every year, the application opens on September 13th—Ana’s birthday—and follows a spring review and selection process. Our hope is that this award not only eases the financial burden of continuing education but also reminds students that their story matters, their dreams matter, and they are not alone on the journey.
We are honored to keep Ana’s spirit alive by investing in the next generation of changemakers. Thank you for being a part of her story.
